LONG GARIN RICE - Basmati

Basmati Rice has been reported in India since the early days of the 19th Century though it may have been named differently. 'Bas' in Hindi language means "aroma" and 'Mati' means "full of" hence the word Basmati i.e. full of aroma. Basmati rice is known as the queen of rice.

Cultivation Basmati rice is grown only in Northern India and in parts of Pakistan touching India. Basmati Rice is grown in green foothills of Himalayas and which is very much known of its fragrance in the world. One can easily call it the Champagne of India.basmati rice is only grown in UP, Punjab, Haryana and J&K in India. Any rice grown elsewhere other than the above regions cannot be called Basmati.

Indian organic basmati rice is available in brown and white forms.White Basmati Rice has the bran layer removed, and is absolutely white in appearance. This rice is faster to cook as compared to the brown rice.

It takes 5,000 liters of water to produce 1 kilo of rice. A farmer must walk 80 kilometers to plow 1 hectare of rice land using a water buffalo (carabao).

Basmati has a fine aromatic flavor and the grains are long and slender. The grain is aged for a certain period of time to enhance its distinctive aroma. Basmati is excellent in almost any savoury rice dish and is perfect for countless rice recipes across the globe. It is a food that feeds half the population of the world. Basmati ranks top for being the richest of all rice in amino acids and other essential nutrients, including iron, niacin, phosphorus, potassium, riboflavin and thiamine.
